Door-to-Door Poetry: Nationwide is the second and final show about the project. Through a mixture of theatre and spoken word, it tells the story of my trip around England as I knocked on strangers’ doors and wrote bespoke poems for them, for free, on any subject they liked.
In March 2019, I set out to visit 12 locations across England, one every month. Through this bold and arguably stupid act, I was trying to find out what matters to people, what is the state of our nation and if strangers are really as scary as they’re made out to be. But as March 2020 approached, world events pushed the project in a very different direction…
Door-to-Door Poetry: Nationwide was directed by Peader Kirk and developed at ARC Stockton with support from Arts Council England and Apples and Snakes. In 2023, I took the show on a 19 date national tour, with performances at Exeter Phoenix, The Edge Theatre Manchester and Rich Mix in London.
